Movies and me
Despite stiff opposition and ridicule from my friends, I went to watch Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. A lady friend of mine had told me that this movie was “made for me” and I just had to watch it to see how a good couple should be.
The tickets were sold out for all the early shows, so rather than wait 3 hours to watch KANK, we went ahead with Omkara.
What a brilliant movie, with an unmatched cast(right up to the totally convincing women singing ‘gaalis’ at the wedding), good screenplay, really amazing shots and a dark end that screws the mood out of you. But then Shakespeare is to blame for the ending. I had loved Maqbool, but Omkara blew me off my feet.
Since we were totally depressed to see the graphic details of Dolly’s (played by Jhajee’s jaaneman Kareena) gruesome death by smothering with a pillow at the hands of her suspecting husband, we decided to wait another hour(the 11 pm show was also sold out by then) and watch KANK to elevate our mood. What a mistake! How well placed my friends’ ridicule had been.
KANK is a total disaster. Nothing’s good in the movie. The parts dont just add up. The dialogue is streched out like a used condom, and it is the lamest dialogue I have heard in years. Shahrukh Khan’s sentimental bullshit is just intolerable now. His only aim seems to be to get the viewer to commit suicide.
Maybe the time has come for Mr Johar to realise that there are other genres in the world too.
So yesterday my friend stopped a really cool telegu movie at a really crucial point, and started playing Fanaa. Yes I had been warned. But Aamir Khan, I had heard better things about him.
Fanaa starts with some nice poems, and thats it!!! This is another movie where I’d charge 10,000 dollars to watch it again, and then drug myself to sleep or something. When will this mediocrity in bollywood ever end? Wasn’t is so obviously and absolutely obvious to Aamir Khan what an ass he was making of himself?
As if this was not enough, I realize someone has been stalking me and looking into my super dirty past!!!
