Run
Yesterday was the Boston Half Marathon. I completed it
. 2 hours 3 mins 53 seconds. About 16 minutes better timing than the last time (and the only time I did a whole 13 miles), which had been 2 hours 20 mins. Lien, my friend from high school who was visiting from TN and also running for the first time, clocked 1 hour 52 mins. Impressive!
It was interesting to see 3 kenyan guys returning towards the starting point(almost 9 miles done) when we were probably between the 4th and 5th miles. They seemed to be joking between themselves and running pretty effortlessly.
I had a few gulps of water on the way but the best part was splashing water on my head and face. The effect is instant! and very calming. It energised me every time I did it.
There was also a bunch of people serving tiny cups of beer(yes!) towards the end. Obviously not official. I thought they were kidding when they said: we just have a couple of beers left. But the smell confirmed it. They were indeed handing out beer shots
The whole emerald necklace area is very gorgeous. I thought there was nothing to beat california, but Boston is beginning to convince me otherwise. There’s more to Boston than the cambridge area
And its very pretty.
The run’s funds go to a cancer charity, and there was a placard with the picture of a cute about 18ish girl with the tag: you didn’t go in vain. Every time I was getting tired I just thought of her. And amazingly a lump came to my throat every time. I was impressed by how thinking of that brought about changes to me physically.
There was a woman cheering the crowd with a covered infant in her arms. She was like: “yes yes!! the baby is impressed! go on! ” That was very cool. It brought an instantaneous smile to my face and the bright sun hitting my eyes and the tiredness in my legs could do nothing to reduce the happiness I was feeling.
And to all the folks who stood before their houses and cheered us, and all the little children who stood by and held out their hands to be touched by us, or played drums, or just looked at us in their innocent way, I say, thank you. At some points I was too tired to even smile, but you guys really made the day for me.
Great run. Lotsa fun.

The problem with me is: I get didactic every time I ink on papers. This time, it’s you who has taken the dais. You inked the roads of Boston. You ran and ran for 21 miles, half-marathon!, that too only with a thought of 18ish girl assuring you of the worth of your efforts and few splashes of water on your hairs and for an urge to stand out, different, of not allowing yourself to be just-another-man.
And see; now you are aiming for the full-marathon next year. Success elates you; makes you at ease with risks. There is always some Beer left at the end of the road. Best of luck!
Somebody has said- ” First find out what you want.
Second, enjoy on the way and after getting it. And it is the second thing that most people neglect. ”
And i see the second in you.
Great job!!
